My Story Begins
I was born in Oklahoma in 1957, the first chapter of a life that would carry me farther than I ever imagined — across oceans, into new cultures, into unexpected callings, and into the roles that would shape me most deeply: son, father, and grandfather.My early years were marked by movement. New landscapes. New sounds. New beginnings.Japan became a second home during a season when I was too young to understand the beauty of it, but old enough to feel its imprint on my spirit. The world felt wide, and I learned early that life is a story — one that unfolds whether you’re ready or not.
Family: Where My Roots Grow Deep
If you know me long enough, you’ll hear the stories. About my parents and grandparents. About the love, the loss, the lessons, the laughter. About the moments that shaped me into the man I am today.I am a son who honors where I came from. A father who has learned and grown alongside his children. A grandfather who sees legacy not as something behind me, but something I’m living right now.Family isn’t just a part of my life — it’s the lens through which everything else becomes clear.
The Work That Called Me Forward
Over the years, my life has taken the shape of many creative callings:

- Guide — helping others recognize the voice within that says, “This is who you are.”
- Scribe — honoring the role of turning experience into something meaningful.
Each business I’ve created — Shepherd’s Way Ministries, Spiritelligence, The Life Purpose Project, Mauldin Books, Shepherd’s Way Publications, Eden Creative Designs — is connected. They’re different branches growing from the same root: a desire to help people see purpose in themselves, their stories, and their lives.
What I Believe
I believe in the weight of story. I believe in the power of legacy. I believe in the quiet voice inside each of us that tells us when we’re standing exactly where we’re meant to stand. And I believe that every part of your history — the joy, the struggle, the grace, the grit — is preparing you for something.

The Work I’m Creating Now
I don’t create simply to create. I create because I'm called.
My work is driven by a deep desire to leave a legacy that matters—one that touches real lives, in real moments, with real hope.
Every book, project, and platform I build is meant to do more than inform or entertain. I want my work to strengthen the soul. I want it to bring clarity. I want it to invite people into a deeper confidence in God and in who they are becoming.
I also carry a persistent desire that people experience joy—not the fragile kind that depends on circumstances, but the kind that stays. The kind that steadies a person in grief. The kind that returns after failure. The kind that rises when life is heavy because it is rooted in something stronger than the moment. For me, that joy is anchored in a relationship with God—the Father who initiates love, the Son who reveals truth, and the Spirit who remains present. Joy, when it’s real, becomes a way of living.
That's why the image matters to me.
Like the tree, I believe a life becomes expansive only when it is rooted. Strong roots don't make a person rigid—they make a person stable. They allow the branches to stretch without snapping. They give a life permission to reach upward, not out of pride, but out of growth. And as a tree matures, it spreads farther than it ever imagined. That’s how purpose works. When it’s true, it multiplies.
And then there are the dandelions.
The world calls them weeds—ordinary, unwanted, easy to dismiss. But I see them as one of God’s quiet miracles. A dandelion doesn’t announce itself with grandeur. It simply becomes what it was made to be—seeded, ready, and unashamed to spread. One plant can produce hundreds of seeds, each one carrying the possibility of new life in a place the original plant will never see.
The dandelion is my power object because it teaches me something I refuse to forget: what people call worthless may be the very thing God uses to fill the earth.
And it teaches me how words work.
One whisper can send tens of seeds into the world. A sentence can send tens of tens. A powerful breath can scatter hundreds to the farthest reaches of the land. That’s what I believe writing is—seedwork. Not performance. Not noise. Seedwork. The kind that lands quietly in a heart, takes root over time, and grows into something that outlives the moment it was spoken.
That is what I’m building: a life of rooted purpose, upward reach, and scattered seeds—words that carry faith, joy, and direction farther than I ever could on my own.
